Brazos River near McLane Stadium & Touchdown Alley

We are excited to announce that Target Restoration & Enrich Seniors are bringing Dragon Boat Racing to Waco on June 17, 2017.

With its origin in China, dragon boating is a sport that’s been around for more than 2,300 years. It has been adapted from its traditional beginnings into the sport it is today. Dragon Boating offers fun for all ages and fitness levels, while simultaneously offering the challenge of competition.  A standard size dragon boat seats 20 paddlers in 10 rows with a drummer in the bow to motivate the team and keep the paddlers in sync. These 21 people all work in unison to propel this 42’ long “canoe” down the race course.

This Battle on the Brazos Dragon Boat Festival will take place on the river next to McLane Stadium and Touchdown Alley.  All proceeds will benefit Enrich Seniors.   Enrich Seniors is a non-profit organization compassionately dedicated to improving the lives of seniors in our community by helping maintain independence through life-changing services and impactful programs while also enriching their quality of life.

This event is now open to team registration and sponsorships.   Forming a Dragon Boat team is easy.  Find 21 co-workers, friends or family members to join your team (20 paddlers and 1 caller/drummer per team).  Don’t worry if you haven’t participated in a Dragon Boat Race before…included in your team registration is a practice session on Friday, June 16th.  Trained professionals will show you how to paddle and race.  All the necessary equipment such as a boat, paddles, life vests, and drum will be provided to you. This event will also bring in club teams from all over Texas.

Please call 254.339.1651 for more information about sponsorship opportunities and/or entering a team.
