A Word from Dr. Adesina
Osgood-Schlatter disease
Osgood-Schlatter disease is a common condition in young children and adolescents who are physically active. It typically is seen during growth spurts and resolves after the growth plates close.
The patella tendon attaches to a growth plate at the tibial tubercle. Repetitive tugging on this results in pain and localized swelling. Some kids will complain of a bump below the knee. Pain is worsened with running and jumping and tends to resolve spontaneously within 24-48 hours after activity. This condition can be seen in one or both knees.
Treatment of Osgood-Schlatter disease is intended to decrease the stress at the tibial tubercle. This includes activity modification and quadriceps stretching. A Chopat strap can also be worn to transfer the tension away from the tibial tubercle. In addition, ice and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can be used to help with pain and swelling after activities. Kids are allowed to continue to participate in sports as long as their function isn’t altered.

Executive Director, Greater Waco Sports Commission
Believe it or not, the Eclipse Weekend is almost here. It’s been a long time coming, with over two years of preparation leading up to celebrating this natural phenomenon. Waco has been at the forefront, transforming itself into a prime destination for an unparalleled experience. Behind the scenes, a large, dedicated team of organizations, community leaders, and volunteers has been tirelessly promoting Waco and orchestrating a three-day party of events over the weekend. A huge shoutout to everyone who’s played a part in crafting this unforgettable weekend and Monday spectacle. I can’t wait!
The Greater Waco Sports Commission is thrilled to get to add to the festivities with our Glow Over Waco 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, April 6th. As the sun goes down, we’ll start the Glow Fun Run at 7:30 PM, followed by the 5K. It’ll be a vibrant adventure that starts near downtown, weaves through Cameron Park, and circles back all along a flat, closed course. It’s the perfect outing for families and friends wanting to celebrate the upcoming Eclipse. “But there’s more!” After crossing the finish line, you can immerse yourself in the beats of the city with the second of three concert nights at Indian Springs.
All of this will be in preparation for The Main Event! Join the GWSC and thousands on Monday for The Eclipse Over Texas event. Waco is the place to be for the 2024 eclipse, offering 4 minutes and 13 seconds of celestial magic. So, mark your calendars if you haven’t already and let’s make memories under the Texas sky! For more details, visit Eclipse Over Texas 2024 and Glow Over Waco before the events are sold out!
